Hi Mauc,
How are you? I noticed you on here and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Jen and I am from Melbourne, Australia. Myself and 9 other Australian youth are going to be traveling to East Timor in July to find out about the country and it's development. We are particularly interested in making connections with youth from Timor, and so I was wondering if you might be interested in this? I am not sure if you are based in Timor or Perth? But you might also have some friends who might like to meet us?
Anyway, I would love to hear back from you!
Thanks,
Jen =)
wow i am so sorry for not letting you know, the baby on my profile is my first born, he is a boy who is reaching two months old now.
His name is Valento.
Hi Mauc,
Welcome to Suaimediaspace! Yes I have been a few times to Suai, the first time was in 1997! Things were a bit different then. I went again with Friends of Suai in 2005, as part of my research for my PhD in 2006 and as a consultant working in the civil society sector in 2008. I like Suai, and enjoy the friendship with our colleagues there. This site now gives it a new dimension - a great way to keep open communication in spite of the distance.
Good to hear that Suai will have a new vet in a few years! How do you enjoy Australia?
Cheers,
Ann
Dear Mauc, I am enjoying this. Thank you for letting me know your dream.
I will invite some vets from Port Phillip to join us and you never know. Perhaps they can help you in some way. I must tell you that there is a lot of activity in Melbourne at the moment as many animal lovers are striving to help victims of our terrible fires. They are running appeals and fundraisers as many animals were made homeless or injured. I will give some thought to how I should approach your suggestion to try and give it the best chance of some success. regards, Jen
Hi Mauc,
Thank you that is a very interesting explanation and wow your English is faultless. Did you grow up in Australia or Timor? I just meant suaimediaspace, org I guess you have seen that site? I hope I have helped the people of Suai just a little, but really the pleasure is all mine. I have learned a tremendous amount about myself and Australia since I began working with the people of Suai. I am beginning to get a glimpse of what it means to grow up in a colonialist culture as opposed to a colonised culture and how that impacts on our relationship. It is to form friendships within the setting organised by your leaders and mine where there are such strong differences in power that are suppressed beneath the political rhetoric. The reason I set this social network up is to broaden the friendship between the two communities which is currently mediated by the Friends of Suai committees and staff in both places. I think it would be wonderful if more people in Port Phillip can get to know more people in Covalima and in this way build one to one friendships that might help in rebuilding your country. When Egy brings some more young people into the social network I will encourage more young people from this side.
I have started a forum on what this space to discuss what this social networl might be used for. You might like to contribute to that.
My first photographs are of things that symbolise my sense of place in St Kilda, which is my neighbourhood in Port Phillip. Another one on boats. Now I think I might do one on my dog. I'm going to encourage some other friends here to do the same and let's see if anyone from Suai is interested in that way of connecting to each other. Which part of Covalima are you from? What kind of animals do you think you will be treating when you return? Are you returning?
Kind regards, Jen
Hi Mauc, How did you find this site. Did Egy put you on to it?
We have a dog called Skip. We love Skip provides another dimension to our lives. We live in an inner suburb of Melbourne and without Skip we wouldn't have any contact with animals at all. I have noticed some people have close relationships with their dogs but many seem to treat them cruelly. I would love to hear your explanation of this. I have been an active member of a friendship between my community of Port Phillip and yours in Suai for nine years. I have been making a documentary about it and I lobbied for many years for a media group to be set up in Suai. In 2005 in response to Egy's request for media tools to make educational videos the Friends of Suai agreed to do it, so I have helped them to do that. Have you seen Suai Media Space the big website attached to this one? Jen
