Dream: For the voices of the youth of Suai to be heard all over the world

Jen asked me about scholarships for Timorese students to study English. There are a few private English language schools in Melbourne, although the quality is variable. Some Timorese have left their courses without completing. Most students get sponsored by an organisation, who might get a grant from a trust fund or donor - this is not easy. I don't have any experience of doing this so I cant give you any details.

Friends of Suai discussed this issue at our meeting last week. In general the cost of Timorese students for fees and living costs in Melbourne is very high. Friends of Suai is more in favour of organising English language training by sending volunteer English teachers to Suai where they can teach a number of students at the same time. It would be interesting to know whether Suai residents on this site would be interested in this idea.

It would be great to get some feedback from this site!

thanks Ann. I too would be interested to know about the response to the Friends of Suai approach to English learning.
I am expecting more activity on here when broadband is set up next month. Perhaps we will get some feedback then.
