2011 COMMEMORATION OF THE SEPTEMBRE NEGRO- SUAI MASSACRE

THE CITY OF PORT PHILLIP DELEGATION INCLUDING THE MAYOR WAS IN SUAI FOR THE 2011 COMMEMORATION OF THE SUAI MASSACRE. IT WAS A VERY MOVING CEREMONY AFTER THE CHURCH SERVICE TO BE PART OF THE TOWN'S PROCESSION TO THE MONUMENT THAT MARKS THE NAMES OF SOME 200 PEOPLE MAINLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND 3 PRIENTS, WHO DIED THAT DAY AT THE HANDS OF THE INDONESIAN MILITA ON 6 SEPTEMBER 1999. WE WERE HONOURED TO BE TOGETHER WITH THE PEOPLE OF COVALIMA IN 2011 TO PAY OUR RESPECT.

IWDA (International Women Development Agency) has funded a project called Taking Steps Project in Suai Covalima-Timor Leste. IWDA has set up a partnership with Friends of Suai in 2009 to the project. Time line of the project is 2 years (2009-2011). The project is implementing by Covalima Community Centre through Women Program. Covalima Community Centre has employed two women and one man to the project.
